The “War on Christmas”
There never was a War on Christmas. It is a fake issue. Acknowledging that not everyone celebrates the religious holiday of Christmas, some people avoid saying “Merry Christmas” and say “happy holidays”. Big deal. Other people say “happy holidays” as a shortcut for “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year”. Neither of these actions are anti-Christian.
I do not celebrate the religious holiday of Christmas but I certainly would not be offended if someone wishes me a merry Christmas. Don’t forget that Christmas is a legal holiday in the United States so “Merry Christmas” is not that different from happy New Year, happy Independence day or happy Presidents’ day-go buy a mattress.
My only objection to merry Christmas is that I am not aware of any other time Americans use the word “merry”. I would prefer happy Christmas for the secular holiday and maybe joyous Christmas or blessed Christmas for the religious.
Being offended if someone wishes you happy holidays is just plain stupid.
